Ventilation and humidity
One of the most common problems in the field of terrariophilia is the combination of humidity and ventilation in the terrarium, as these two factors are always inverse from each other- the greater the ventilation, the less humidity there is.
This is also something which depends on the actual humidity and temperature of the environment, whether it be the room where the terrarium is housed, or the area we live in. For this reason it is important to be able to constantly regulate the ventilation, and thereby ensure the correct level of humidity. This is true even when we have a room that is especially acclimatised for our animals, given that the room normally retains constant levels of temperature and humidity throughout the year, whereas in some terrariums, particularly those which we are going to use for breeding, we should increase the levels of humidity on a cyclical basis. This is when the importance of being able to adjust the ventilation becomes clear.
The ventilation of the terararium is provided by the circulation of air within it. To ensure good air quality, there are sliding windows placed diagonally on either side of the terrarium, and these provide constant regulation of the humidity and ventilation.
The gap between the glass of the windows is xxx mm, a measurement which has been calculated to ensure a more than sufficient direct transit of air.
When it comes to humidity, Pro-cage terrariums are built using a plastic material which ensures durability against humidity, as it is imposible for mould or fungi to appear on its walls.
To sum up we can say that a good terrarium is one which, by having the correct ventilation, ensures that the level of humidity in the atmosphere decreases slowly.
